IIHS Internships 2014

IIHS is now accepting applications from Indian and International Masters (including recent Masters) and Ph.D. students for internships at IIHS for periods between 2 and 6 months, from May to December 2014.
IIHS Internships aim to equip students to learn more about practice and research in their chosen fields, as well as immerse themselves in a unique interdisciplinary and innovative environment. Internships at IIHS straddle diverse disciplines such as technology, management, planning, public policy, law, environmental services, media study, economics and the social sciences.
IIHS Interns will be immersed in a rich learning environment involved in  cutting edge themes. Interdisciplinary projects at IIHS are based on various themes involving  one or more of the following research clusters:
  • Economic development
  • Environment, Climate change& sustainability
  • Law, Governance & public policy
  • Human development
  • Urban systems & infrastructure
EligibilityIIHS is looking for interns who are committed to excellence, learning, and are willing to work both independently and, as part of interdisciplinary teams. Previous professional work experience and academic coursework in the chosen field for at least two continuous months is desirable but is not necessary.
Proficiency in written and oral English, willingness to take on variety of tasks as needed, ability to meet deadlines, along with, good interpersonal skills will help ensure a successful internship.
Students from across a diversity of fields (as indicated above) are eligible to apply.
Application Process
The application process will be conducted in two cycles – in January and March 2014. Interested candidates are requested to submit the following application materials in the attached form:
  1. Two research interests described in one-page
  2. A current CV with educational background, relevant research and professional experience
  3. One sample of quality work
Short-listed candidates will be contacted for interviews beginning in February 2014.

Visiting Student Research Programme 2014

TIFR's Centre for Applicable Mathematics is a unique centre of research, with the faculty working in both pure and applied areas of mathematics. Every year we offer summer internships to several undergraduate and graduate students from around the country to work with faculty on various research projects culminating sometimes in new results. These internships typically take place during the summer, though it is possible to have them at another time of the year. You may discuss the options once you are selected. The aim of this internship is to expose the student to an academic research experience and for the student to work towards problems of importance. The students are expected to have the ability to work fairly independently and to have a strong desire to be problem solvers. At the end of the internship, the students will be required to make a presentation and write a report of their work.
Period of Internship:
Summer internship is typically for a length of 1 or 2 months between May - July of each year, though longer internships and/or other times of the year are possible as well.
How to Apply:
Please request one Referee, usually a teacher or academic advisor who can comment on your academic qualifications, to send us a recommendation letter by email at ssrp-at-math.tifrbng.res.in by the deadline of February 28 , 2014. Your application will be considered incomplete without this letter.

IISER Pune Summer Student Programme 2014

The deadline for registration is 28th February 2014

IISER Pune invites applications from research oriented students to participate in its Summer Student Programme, 2014. Successful applicants will have an opportunity to participate in the research programmes of IISER-Pune faculty. Research activities in IISER-Pune span both theory and experiment in biology, chemistry, mathematics and physics with a strong focus on interdisciplinary research. These summer projects are also an opportunity for students to evaluate the suitability of various programmes at IISER-Pune (Integrated PhD and PhD) for future career choice.
This application form is meant for students of educational institutions other than those of IISER-Pune.
The web application form for IISER-Pune students will be made available after 15th February 2014.

Summer projects selected through the Indian Academy of Science will not require to go through this registration process.

Eligibility & Requirements

Students currently (at the time of application) studying in the
2nd, 3rd, or 4th year of B.Sc/B.Tech/B.E or equivalent
1st year of M.Sc/M.Tech or equivalent.


Minimum 60% (or equivalent) in overall grades, or 80% in the particular stream(s) of interest.

You may go through the webpages of the faculty to confirm that your interests overlap, and to obtain an idea of their research methods.
every project has a requirement in terms of knowledge and skills. Please do not apply for a project that you are not equipped to undertake. It will be a waste of your time

You may apply for up to 2 projects

Project duration: 4 - 8 weeks during the period May 15th – July 15th, 2014.

Other Details

Selected students without other sources of summer project financial support will receive a fellowship sufficient to cover boarding and lodging in IISER-Pune hostel and travel by train between place of study/residence and Pune.
The performance of students will be evaluated at the end of the project and the same conveyed to their parent institute.

The results of the selection process will be conveyed to the students by March 31st

Internship at The S.N. Bose National Centre for Basic Sciences







SUMMER RESEARCH PROGRAMME 2014

The S. N Bose National Centre announces the Summer Research Programme to be conducted during
May to July 2014 for students in first /second year of M.Sc in Physical, Chemical (including
Biophysics and Chemical Biology) and Mathematical Sciences. The project will be for a period of
eight weeks (with no break) under the supervision of a Faculty Member of SNBNCBS in an area of
mutual interest. Stay for a period less than eight weeks will not be entertained. At the end of the project,
students are required to give a presentation of their work and also submit a project report. The Centre
will provide each student an honorarium of Rs 2,000 per week to cover the hostel and other expenses.
They will be allowed to use the library and other facilities in the Centre. The outstation students will be  reimbursed with AC III Tier return Train Fare (except Rajdhani, Duronto and similar trains) between their place of work or residence and Kolkata. The list of members of the faculty of the Centre and their field of research are available in the web-page of the Centre. Interested students, with consistent good academic record may directly write to the below mentioned contact with a note on the preferred listing of two Faculty members with whom they would like to associate. Students must contact the respective faculty members before sending the application. A Letter of Recommendation by the Head of the
Department or by a senior member of the Faculty, who has taught the student, should accompany the
application. The last date of receiving the application is 7 March 2014. The decision will be published
in the web-page of the Centre by the end of March.

  National Network for Mathematical and Computational Biology

Internships available for Bachelors and Masters students
Each node will host student interns interested in pursuing a research career in mathematical or computational biology at institutions located in its region.

Eligibility: Bachelors (3rd or 4th year) and Masters students
Average duration: 3 months (could be more in certain cases). These internships can be availed at any time during 2014 subject to consent from the faculty mentor. 
Fellowship amount: Rs. 10,000 per month. In addition, outstation interns can receive up to Rs. 5000 per month for accommodation and Rs. 3000 for travel from and to their home place.
